Meet Dr. Alex

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist with a focus on psychological and psychoeducational assessment and educational advocacy. I earned my Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina (USC), where I specialized in psychological assessment. I also hold an M.A. in School Psychology from USC, as well as a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in English from Newberry College, where I graduated summa cum laude and lettered in varsity baseball.

In 2023, I launched Lightside Psychology to offer in-depth, personalized evaluations to children, teenagers, and adults across Florida and Missouri. My practice covers a wide range of assessments, from ADHD, learning differences, and cognitive issues to emotional and mood concerns. I place a strong emphasis on creating clear, individualized recommendations for treatment, academic support, and standardized testing accommodations.

I have a special interest in working with older teens, college students, and professionals preparing for high stakes exams like the ACT/SAT, LSAT, MCAT, USMLE, and state bar exams. I also frequently consult on cases involving educational law, school accommodations, and access to resources, often collaborating with attorneys and school teams to make sure clients get the support they need.

Before starting my practice, I built and led the testing program at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida (Fort Myers, Florida) and served as clinical faculty at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (Baltimore, Maryland), an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Medicine. My background has given me a strong foundation in psychological testing and a deep understanding of how to navigate educational systems, disability law, and standardized testing policies.

Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor at Kansas City University, where I supervise and mentor future psychologists. I’m also involved in KCU’s Center for Population Health & Equity, working to expand access to testing services for students in Kansas City public schools.

My goal in every evaluation is to combine clinical insight with practical guidance, with the overall aim of empowering clients and families to better understand themselves, advocate for their needs, and move forward with confidence.
